Reconciliation Action Plan

Yumbah Aquaculture acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands and waters on which we farm and operate and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. It is within this context and in recognition of National Reconciliation Week that Yumbah is proud to launch its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The launch of Yumbah’s RAP is the result of a strong commitment to listening, learning and growing our engagement with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the communities in which we work, as well as the Yaegl people from whose language our company name is shared. This a commitment supported by Yumbah’s staff and Board who have been integral in the development of this Plan and Yumbah’s Reconciliation actions.

The Reflect RAP includes action items that Yumbah will aim to achieve within a two-year period, with a clear focus on:

  • improving, maintaining and developing mutually beneficial relationships
  • showing respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures
  • providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Yumbah would like to acknowledge and thank Campfire x, an Indigenous consultancy firm who work to change the narrative by unifying the 97% of Australians who are not Indigenous with the 3% who are, for their support and leadership in enabling Yumbah to achieve this milestone step in the company’s Reconciliation journey.

About the Artist

Christine Pearce is a Gunditjmara Elder and artist from Portland, Victoria. Christine’s artwork is called ‘Saltwater Edge’ and the three paintings represent the traditional links of the Gunditjmara people to the sea, (Nyamat) as a food source and resources over many centuries.

Christine describes herself as a contemporary artist. Her non-traditional paintings and weavings are inspired by life experiences, nature, and of course, her cultural background. The artwork from ‘Saltwater Edge’ has been featured in Yumbah’s Reflect RAP and associated communications with permission from the artist.
