With our exciting growth trajectory, we are looking for a Fish Performance Technician based in Bicheno, Tasmania.

About the Role

The key focus of this newly created role will be to provide the Farm Manager with the necessary support to deliver on the following:

  • Generating accurate and timely information regarding Fish Performance on the farm.
  • Continuously improve farm performance.
  • Comply with the legislative regulations as well as voluntary accreditation programs.

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

  1. Performance Data Integrity
  • Ensure that performance and environmental data is collected and recorded as per required standard.
  • Ensure that devices and other monitoring equipment are cared for in a manner that ensures maximum lifespan.
  • Compile data into appropriate format required for reports and dashboards with a particular emphasis on improving information visualisation and delivery.
  • Assist Fish Performance Manager with data preparation at month-end. 
  1. Farm Optimisation Support
  • Proactively analyse production and other information and collaborate with Farm Manager and/or Fish Performance Manager regarding findings.
  • Manage on-farm R&D (in-house or via 3rd parties) including project proposal, trial set-up, day-to-day trial management, gathering and analysis of data, report write-up and recommended actions.
  • Assist Farm Manager with building a Continuous Improvement culture by developing husbandry training materials, doing training, reviewing and auditing Standard Operating Procedures etc.
  1. Day-to-day Operational Support
  • Assist Farm Manager with administration & coordination of duties relating to Biosecurity & Animal health as well as compliance aspects relating to mandatory regulations (EPA, AHAP etc.) as well as voluntary programs such as ASC.
  • General support regarding hatchery, nursery & grow-out operational activities when needed.

 

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Grade 12 with Tertiary Qualification (Biology/Zoology/Agriculture).
  • Thorough knowledge of husbandry interventions required to optimise health and well-being of aquaculture species.
  • Computer literacy: Advanced.
