Yumbah Mussels Holdings, Australia’s largest mussel farmer and processor is seeking an experienced and motivated National Farming Operations Manager.

Yumbah Aquaculture is on track to be Australia’s leading shellfish aquaculture company.

  • Australia’s largest mussel producer, with mussel operations in Victoria and South Australia growing more than 2,600 tonnes a year;
  • Australia’s largest abalone producer, with abalone production at four farms in Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia producing more than 750 tonnes a year;
  • Australia’s largest oyster spat producer, with production of more than 150 million Oyster spat per year from South Australia and Tasmania Hatcheries for farms in South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania;
  • A significant farmed mature oyster supplier, producing about 450,000 dozen a year from two sites in Tasmania, with investment committed to grow to 650 000 dozen;

The position will be based in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Relocation assistance will be offered to the successful applicant.

Farming operations are spread over South Australia (389 ha) and Victoria (140 ha), therefore interstate travel will be required when necessary. Reporting directly to the Executive Mussel Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for co-ordinating all on water activities.

We are seeking a passionate individual who will drive performance, challenge existing processes and ensure all assets are optimised.

The role will encompass monitoring and leading the on water and yard staff. Performing day to day marine operations, including spat catching, seeding, floating, general farm maintenance, yard duties and overall vessel maintenance in conjunction with the skippers.

 

The person we seek will:

  • Provide proven leadership
  • Have a minimum of three years in the mussel industry
  • Have a logistics and planning ability to ensure optimisation of plant and people resources
  • Be able to build relationships across the business
  • Understand the key business drivers and identity areas of improvement
  • Preferably have a skipper’s ticket or boat licence
