Yumbah Clean Seas, now proudly part of the Yumbah Group, is a global leader in the full cycle breeding, production and sale of Yellowtail Kingfish (YTK, Seriola lalandi). We’re investing heavily in our people, our systems and our infrastructure, and we’re now looking for an experienced Marine Operations Manager to help us take the next step.

About the Role

Based in beautiful Port Lincoln, South Australia and reporting to the General Manager of Operations, the Marine Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day marine operations activities to ensure alignment with our overall farming and harvest plans.

The role will see you lead, mentor and coach the teams performing day-to-day marine operations activities including fish feeding, bathing, net changes, pen splits and count, etc. whilst focusing on operational performance and work standards, positive behaviours and professional development of the team. You will also work closely with maintenance teams, ensuring vessels are maintained, inspected and run in accordance with company policy and legislative requirements.

Advanced organisational, problem-solving and leadership skills are essential to build capability and confidence in our teams, a safety-first culture and continuous improvement across marine operations. As a key member of the operations leadership team, you will work closely with other leaders to continually build and maintain a cohesive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve operational efficiencies and productivity by structuring workflow and coaching supervisors to appropriately allocate labor;
  • Assist in building a culture of teamwork across all operations;
  • Contribute to major asset procurement projects to align infrastructure to farming needs;
  • Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and build the systems to track compliance;
  • Support the transition to a paperless system of data capture;
  • Ensure vessels are maintained, inspected and are run in accordance with company policy and legislative requirements;
  • Develop and maintain a process of clear and effective communication between the team, managers and cross-functionally across the business;
  • Work closely with our maintenance team to ensure preventative and reactive maintenance tasks are resourced as required;
  • Ensure every member of the team is performing their tasks and responsibilities to the required standards;
  • Ensure farming leases are maintained to standard;
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development for the team;
  • Support and live by our ‘Safety First’ culture;
  • Ensure compliance with Yumbah Clean Seas’ WHS policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Experience

  • 5 years + experience in Ocean Pen Aquaculture;
  • Experience working in and broad knowledge of Aquaculture;
  • Relevant Aquaculture qualifications;
  • Coxswain 1 or Master <24m NC;
  • Experience leading teams and working in a team environment;
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills;
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail;
  • Good organizational skills including a demonstrated ability to determine priorities and meet tight deadlines;
  • Strong computer literacy skills;
  • Strong coaching and development skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence organizational and team culture.
